Georgia Census Update

Congratulations, Georgians! We achieved a 70% initial mail-back response rate, an increase of 5% over the 2000 initial response rates. The U.S. Census Bureau is currently in the data-verification phase, and collection of Census data is over for this decennial event. The 2010 Census results will be released in December, 2010.

Message from Governor Sonny Perdue

Every 10 years, Georgia has the responsibility to participate in the United States Census to the fullest extent.  The year 2010 is a census year, and in order to ensure that every resident of our state is counted, I have created a state Complete Count Committee.

This committee, co-chaired by Commissioner Mike Beatty of the Department of Community Affairs and Debra Lyons, Director of the Governor's Office of Workforce Development, is tasked with the responsibility of developing and implementing a plan to ensure we have the best possible Census participation rate.

This committee is working hard and developed a plan to identify the best way to reach all populations and all geographic areas.  I have confidence in the leaders and members of this committee to build and execute a successful plan to accomplish this goal.

Any good plan needs people to make it successful. In this case, it needs grassroots organization. I am asking all Local Complete Count Committees to register with the State Complete Count Committee. By building communication channels, we will be able to work together to increase our success. Please access the Register Your Local Committee link in the side navigation.

I am asking for all Georgians to complete their Census forms and return them by mail as soon as possible.  By mailing your form in a timely manner, you will both help ensure our state is accurately represented and help save tax payer dollars.

I encourage you to browse our Census website for more information. Thank you for your support of our 2010 Census Complete Count Committee.

Sincerely,

Governor Sonny Perdue
